Public access to Council Meetings during Covid-19

Due to the measures in place during the Covid-19 pandemic, all of our Council Meetings and informal gatherings will now be held via audio-visual link  meeting (using the Zoom application).

The Barunga West Council met last night to discuss further precautions regarding COVID-19, and a ban on all non-essential travel to help reduce the spread of COVID-19.Barunga West has been identified as a vulnerable town, because of the ageing population.  Just over nine percent of its residents are aged 80 and over, with over 37 percent of people aged over 60.“We love people visiting our Council area and you will be welcome once it is all over, but for now I’m asking all visitors to please stay home,” Mayor Kerley said.

PUBLIC TOILET CLOSURES

In an effort to reduce the risk to the public during the Covid-19 health emergency Council wishes to advise that the following Council public toilets will be closed until further notice; Alford, Tickera, Mundoora, Pt Broughton Skate Park, Bute Fauna Park, Pt Broughton Cemetery (except when funeral taking place), Bute Cemetery (except when funeral taking place) Kulpara, Bute railway reserve, Pt Broughton Foreshore and Fisherman Bay foreshore toilets will all remain open at this time and with an increased cleaning schedule in place.

CEO appointed - Maree Wauchope

Following a recruitment process attracting a number of quality candidates, Maree Wauchope has been appointed as the Barunga West Council’s new Chief Executive Officer.Maree brings to the role extensive public sector leadership expertise gained from working as a senior executive within State Government for a number of years. She also has a strong understanding of local government and has worked closely with Councils advising strategically on infrastructure projects, and tourism and visitor economy initiatives. Maree will start as CEO on Monday 4th of May.

Playgrounds, skate parks & outdoor gym areas CLOSED

🚫PUBLIC NOTICE 🚫 As of Monday 30th March 2020 all public playgrounds, skate parks and outdoor gym areas are CLOSED until further notice in line with the Department of Health advice received. Gates will be locked where possible and or signage in place advising members of the public to not use these spaces at all. We thank you for your co-operation during this time.

Effective 12 noon Friday March 27 2020 until further notice. We will be restricting our customer service to telephone, email and website or by pre-arranged appointment only where deemed necessary. Please phone the office to discuss an appointment if you require one, we do not anticipate delays. If you have documents or a package for Council, please phone and we will arrange access.
