MOBILE /TEMPORARY VENDORS PERMIT (inc MOBILE FOOD VEHICLES)

A vibrant and successful mobile and temporary food sector can showcase and take advantage of the inherent strengths of our region with its array of quality food, coffee, boutique breweries, tourism and lifestyle experiences. The contributions of vendors, complementing our existing businesses to urban vibrancy and micro-economies are key economic growth and investment enables.

Barunga West Council is committed to supporting local business and recognises that the operation of mobile and temporary vending (including mobile food vehicles) within the district will be determined giving due regard for retaining an appropriate balance between existing business operators, local residents and community/visitor demand for variety and services.

Before undertaking a mobile / temporary vending venture, please ensure you have read Mobile Vending Policy and Mobile Vendor Permit Guidelines and Locations have the appropriate licences/permits/approvals in place. Council have specific conditions and areas where mobile and temporary vendors can situate themselves as listed in the location rules .

Mobile food businesses are be subject to inspections when operating in the Barunga West Council ensuring compliance with the Food Act 2001 and Food Regulations 2017.

Applications to operate a mobile vendor business are required to be lodged with Council a minimum twenty-one (21) business days prior to the activity unless otherwise negotiated with Council.

Mobile Vending Permits can be issued either Monthly or Annually, as per the fees and charges.

Petitions

A petition is a formal document to Council containing the names, addresses and signatures of residents. Petitions draw the attention of Council to a particular matter or ask the Council to consider making a particular decision.

How to submit a Petition

The Local Government (Procedures at Meetings) Regulations 2013 (the Regulations) sets out that a petition must:
- be legibly written, typed or printed
- clearly state the request or submission of the petitioners
- include the name, street address, suburb and signature of each person
- be addressed to and delivered to the Chief Executive Officer by post or emailed to barunga@barungawest.sa.gov.au

Once submitted to Council a petition will become a public document and may be published in a Council meeting agenda.

We encourage you to use the provided Petition Template, to ensure the petition provides all of the information required for acceptance and submission to Council.

What happens after I submit my petition?

- The Head Petitioner will be contacted to confirm receipt of the petition.
- Petitions received in the correct form will be placed on the agenda for the next ordinary Council meeting.
- Petitioners are welcome to attend the meeting, however cannot participate in the debate at the meeting.
- A report is presented to Council at the meeting for consideration.
- Results will be included in the Minutes of that meeting and the Head Petitioner advised of the outcome.
