The new speciality tourism website - topoftheyorke.com.au – has been created by Council in collaboration with Adelaide web design studio JABA.
The new website is the next step in Council’s plan to boost tourism in the region after adopting the Top of the Yorke brand in 2020 and embarking on a localised tourism marketing and social media campaign.
The website will further enhance Council’s latest recreational trails strategy. Council last month adopted the Recreational Trails Strategy 2022-2027 that includes exciting and innovative trail activations to involve more families, water users and cyclists in the trails experience.
Commencement of the trails signage strategy, digital interactive maps and the roll out of the first of the rebranded walking trails will feature on the new website.
Maree Wauchope, Chief Executive, of Barunga West Council said there was a genuine commitment to focus on developing tourism opportunities to better harness the economic benefits of the region’s stunning natural assets.
“Topoftheyorke.com.au brings the region’s tourism assets to the digital realm,” Ms Wauchope said. “The natural next step in our marketing strategy was to develop a tourism-based website to further support the Top of the Yorke brand, aggregate a local tourism focus and stimulate economic development.”
Ms Wauchope said the strategy would include a strong focus on eco-tourism, which was experiencing a boom in popularity, especially among families.
“The new website will enable key stakeholders in the Barunga West region to promote new and existing trails, utilise digital interactive mapping, and showcase eco-tourism assets,” Ms Wauchope said.
Council will work with local operators to enhance their capabilities with social media training sessions, assist with Australian Tourism Data Warehouse listings, and implement strategies to generate new business.
The new Top of the Yorke website utilises information feeds from the Australian Tourism Data Warehouse site, which also feeds Southaustralia.com and the Yorekpeninsula.com.au websites.
Local tourism operators, businesses and community groups are encouraged to engage with Council and leverage this great local promotional opportunity.
The Top of the Yorke website will be launched to the local tourism community following the completion of Council elections in November.
