The survey, which is open to community members and visitors until 2 November 2022, can be completed and submitted online by scanning a QR code or by visiting the Bute Post Office or Bute Corner Store for a hard copy.
The survey takes less than five minutes to complete and includes questions about the frequency with which a respondent uses outdoor spaces such as the Bute Lions Fauna Park, the playground, the Bute Heritage Shed, the skate park, grassed areas and public amenities.
Survey respondents can remain anonymous or enter a draw to win a $50 voucher from the Bute Corner Store.
Steve Davey, Manager of Assets and Infrastructure, of Barunga West Council said the survey would help Council staff gain baseline data of how the community and visitors have been using the existing outdoor play spaces in the middle of Bute.
“This survey is an important step as part of preparations for what will be a transformational project for our community, especially young families,” Mr Davey said. “We hope to encourage more children and families from Bute and surrounding towns to safely be active outside for longer and become more connected to their community.”
The “Connecting Bute’s Outdoor Play Spaces” project is being undertaken with a Wellbeing SA $250,000 grant that Barunga West Council secured from the State Government in December last year, with the support of the Bute 2000 Onwards Committee, to help revitalise Bute, located 35km south of Port Broughton.
The project aims to connect and upgrade play spaces within the township with newly designated pedestrian crossings and shared paths to connect outdoor play spaces with Bute Lions Fauna Park and Hummock’s walking trail.
A new path connecting the play spaces will be built, suitable for pedestrians, BMX and scooter riders, alongside an all-age appropriate bike safety track, with replica road signs and line marking for learning and fun. Other future planned upgrades include landscaping using native plants, dedicated parking areas and a silo art viewing area. The project is being undertaken in close consultation and collaboration with the Bute community and an Advisory Committee that includes Bute community representatives.
