Private group bookings for schools and aged care are available from Tuesday, 9 December to Friday, 12 December, between 10am and 3pm, offering a 30-to-40-minute visit inside the popular Santa Cave.
Students can meet Santa, write him a letter and post it in the Santa Mailbox for a personalised reply. School groups will also take part in a scavenger hunt and enjoy a Christmas story from Ben the Elf.
Council is also urging families requiring a calmer environment to secure a place at Silent Santa, the region’s only sensory-friendly Christmas session, held on Monday, 15 December from 10am to midday. These low-stimulus sessions are designed for children with autism or sensory processing needs and will operate with limited numbers: a maximum of 15 people per time slot (two families).
Silent Santa visitors can meet Santa, write and post a letter with their return address, and explore the Cave in a quiet, controlled setting.
Bookings are essential via Barunga West Council on (08) 8635 2107.
After Silent Santa, general public sessions will run from midday to 2pm on Monday 15 December, and from 10am to 2pm on weekdays between 16 and 24 December.
These sessions do not require bookings and are an opportunity for families to enjoy the display, take a photo and soak up the Christmas atmosphere. Please note Santa is not in attendance during general public sessions.
Mayor Leonie Kerley says Council is keen to see more schools, aged care residents and families take advantage of the expanded program.
“The Santa Cave has become a highlight of December in Port Broughton. We want to make sure every child and every resident, including those needing a quieter space, has the opportunity to enjoy it,” she said.
