Statement from the CEO

Barunga West Council has been advised by the Federal Government that its application for a funding contribution towards a proposed Tourism and Events Centre on the Port Broughton Foreshore will not be proceeding.

This is due to a decision by the Federal Government to discontinue the Building Better Regions Fund program, including the Round 6 Infrastructure Projects Stream, following a review into regional grants programs.

The Federal Government has, however, invited Barunga West Council to resubmit its application under the new Growing Regions Program.

“Barunga West Council will be applying for grant funding under the new Growing Regions Program and has already commenced discussions with the department and government stakeholders to ensure its application is seriously considered,” Barunga West Council CEO Maree Wauchope said.

“Council is relying on federal funding to match Council’s budget for the proposed Tourism and Events Centre on the Port Broughton Foreshore.

“The proposed Tourism and Events Centre is shovel ready.”
