Barunga West Council is delighted that Port Broughton, our beloved seaside town at the Top of the Yorke, has been awarded the 2023 SA Tiny Tourism Town Award.

The accolade was delivered at the South Australian Top Tourism Town Awards ceremony held last night in Adelaide.

“It is an incredible honour to accept this award on behalf of the Port Broughton community,” said Barunga West Mayor Leonie Kerley. “This achievement is a testament to the tireless efforts of numerous individuals over the past years who have worked relentlessly to make our town an appealing tourism hotspot.”

Port Broughton's recognition is indeed a result of significant efforts made in recent years. Multimillion dollar upgrades to the Port Broughton Tourism Park, development of all abilities and accessible facilities on the breathtaking foreshore, and an array of regular events like Seafood on Spencer, the Seaside Market, a Show’n’Shine, New Year’s Eve fireworks, and the Feast on the Foreshore have added to the vibrant atmosphere and tourist appeal of Port Broughton. Just a 20-minute drive from the town, visitors can also appreciate award-winning Silo Art at Bute.

Port Broughton, located 175km northwest of Adelaide on the Yorke Peninsula, is popular among young families, nature, fishing and water sports enthusiasts alike who can’t get enough of the sun, sea, and fun. Its waters produce some of the world’s best seafood which visitors can taste at local culinary establishments. Port Broughton truly offers a perfect blend of natural beauty, rich history, and family friendly hospitality.

But what distinguishes Port Broughton is the warmth of its community. Visitors will always find a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere that embodies the spirit of the township.

“What sets Port Broughton apart is its warm, welcoming community. The township offers a unique blend of adventure and relaxation that will make anyone feel at home,” Mayor Kerley said. “Just 10 minutes walking along our beautiful foreshore, basking in the sun and the soothing sea breeze, is enough to make anyone feel more relaxed and calmer.”

Barunga West Council extends an invitation to all to visit Port Broughton, a true gem at the top of South Australia's Yorke Peninsula. With stunning scenery, delectable fresh seafood, hospitable locals, and a plethora of activities and attractions, it is the ultimate family holiday destination.

The Council, on behalf of the Port Broughton community, wishes to extend its deepest gratitude for this award.

“We are delighted to receive this recognition and look forward to showcasing our township on a national stage at the Australian Top Tourism Town Awards later this year,” Mayor Kerley said.

The Top Tourism Town Awards celebrate towns that provide incredible visitor experiences while demonstrating a shared commitment to developing tourism in their respective regions. The program is delivered annually by South Australia’s peak tourism body, the Tourism Industry Council South Australia (TiCSA).

TiCSA’s Chief Executive Officer, Shaun de Bruyn, commended the winners and entrants.

“We congratulate the winners and the entrants of the 2023 South Australian Top Tourism Town Awards for their contributions to the vibrancy and appeal of our state’s tourism industry,” Mr de Bruyn said.

“Each tourism town adds its own distinct charm to South Australia, providing amazing experiences to visitors from within SA, around Australia, and around the world.”
