Port Broughton Revels in Easter Weekend Success

Published 3rd April 2024
Easter Long Weekend activities and events at Port Broughton have been an overwhelming success, highlighted by perfect mid-30C weather and a vibrant community atmosphere. This marks a significant contrast to last year's conditions, which saw events curtailed by rain and cooler, breezier weather.

Festivities kicked off with Barunga West Council’s annual Feast on the Foreshore on Good Friday. An estimated crowd of 2000 people gathered to enjoy an array of culinary delights from nine different food trucks, with seafood and curry dishes being the first to sell out. The event was boosted by live music, adding to the festive atmosphere. Enthusiasm was so high that all food truck vendors have already confirmed their attendance for next year's event.

The annual Easter Seaside Market on Saturday set a new record for Port Broughton’s Easter festivities, with over 60 stalls participating, making it the biggest market event the town has ever hosted. The markets saw a continuous influx of visitors throughout the day, enjoying a range of activities from hair braiding to the simple joy of eating fairy floss, ensuring that there was something for everyone.

Barunga West Council extends its thanks to all attendees for their exemplary behaviour and for contributing to the success of the weekend's events. Council is already looking forward to welcoming everyone back next year.

Maree Wauchope, CEO of Barunga West Council, said the weekend's events were a hit.

“The Feast on the Foreshore and Seaside Markets over the Easter weekend were more popular than ever and a hit with locals and visitors of all ages,” Ms Wauchope said.

“Over 2000 people enjoyed the Feast on the Foreshore, taking advantage of the perfect weather and the variety of food on offer. The Seaside Markets on Saturday were equally successful, with an unprecedented number of stall holders and visitors, making it one of our most successful events to date. These annual events are a highlight for the Top of the Yorke, and we're excited to bring them back next year.

“The success of the Easter Long Weekend activities not only showcases the vibrant community spirit of Port Broughton but also highlights the town's ability to host significant, well-attended public events.”
