Council wants to define a vision and general plan for the entire township of Tickera, located 40km south of Port Broughton, and will formally seek feedback from the community and other stakeholders between 26 September and 9 December 2022.
The master plan, once finalised, will be used as a basis for planning code amendments and capital works grant funding.
Among its draft recommendations are to pursue funding avenues for road upgrades including sealing the Alford to Tickera Road, recreational walking trails, an improved boat launching facility, and for a Telstra site base station.
The draft master plan also proposes an expansion of tourism facilities including seeking funding to redevelop the disused Tickera Oval into a ground that could accommodate camping, caravans, motor homes and boats along with toilets, potable drinking water, picnic areas, shaded BBQ facilities, an onsite dump point and a rubbish bin station.
Other draft recommendations include seeking the release by the State Government of 31 Crown Land allotments, investigating whether eco cabins could be placed south of the community centre and golf course, and working with the Landscape Board, Tickera community and Aboriginal nations to formalise one coastal camping location.
Maree Wauchope, Chief Executive, of Barunga West Council said the draft master plan identified key sites and areas within and surrounding Tickera for potential development and rezoning.
“Tickera is one of Yorke Peninsula’s coastal jewels, with a population of around 200 who treasure its spectacular natural beauty and relaxed atmosphere,” Ms Wauchope said.
“The draft master plan is not designed to dictate what must happen, but rather is a culmination of ideas and opportunities moving forward, as many in the community acknowledge that change in the future is inevitable, especially as demographics change over time.
“The primary purpose is to create a cohesive, community-endorsed framework to guide investment and the development of public and privately owned land in Tickera into the future.”
Tickera ratepayers will be engaged directly by direct mail which will include a copy of the draft plan.
