The project has been approved under Stream One of the Enabling Infrastructure Program, delivered through the Thriving Regions Fund, which supports shovel-ready projects that strengthen regional communities and improve liveability.
The funding will enable Council to replace ageing overhead power lines with a safe, code-compliant underground system. The upgrade will increase network capacity, improve reliability and support the long-term redevelopment of the park.
Mayor Leonie Kerley said securing external funding for essential infrastructure reduced pressure on ratepayers while strengthening one of Port Broughton’s tourism assets.
“Reliable electrical infrastructure is fundamental to maintaining and operating the park safely and efficiently,” Mayor Kerley said.
“This upgrade ensures the site can meet current compliance standards, handle increased demand and support future redevelopment without overloading the network.”
Council applied for the grant in October 2025. Stream One funding is allocated to projects that are construction-ready and demonstrate clear economic and community benefit.
Applications are assessed against criteria including project readiness, co-contribution, regional impact and alignment with broader development objectives.
The total project budget is $459,800, with the State Government grant covering approximately 70 per cent of the cost and Council contributing the remaining $137,940, including contingency. Works are scheduled for completion by December 2027.
Mayor Kerley said the broader benefits would extend beyond the park itself.
“Tourism plays an important role in Port Broughton’s economy. Strengthening essential services at Broughton Bayside Caravan Park supports local retailers, hospitality venues and service providers by improving our capacity to accommodate visitors and regional events,” she said.
“The project benefits residents, visitors and businesses across the Barunga West area, particularly Port Broughton and surrounding farming communities. Improved reliability and safety also support park residents and the wider coastal community.”
Broughton Bayside Caravan Park, one of two caravan parks in Port Broughton, is located north of the main street offering a quiet beachfront coastal setting suitable for short-term travellers.
The park includes powered sites, a camp kitchen and barbecue facilities, communal showers and toilets, laundry amenities, car parking and family-friendly open space.
Council will finalise detailed design and procurement planning ahead of construction in the 2027/28 financial year.
