Barunga West Council has endorsed funding for 11 community projects across the Top of the Yorke, allocating $39,999.50 through its 2025/26 Community Grants Scheme.

The grants will support improvements to sporting facilities, community buildings, local publications, cultural groups and township projects stretching from Port Broughton to Bute, Mundoora, Tickera and Alford.

Council received 14 applications totalling more than $62,000, with projects assessed against community benefit, previous funding history and capacity to proceed with partial support.

The 11 funded projects include practice-net upgrades for the Broughton Mundoora Cricket Club ($5,000), interpretive signage for the Mundoora RV Park ($2,400), Point-of-Sale system upgrades for the Mundoora Community Sports Club ($4,313), and an air-conditioner for the Broughton Rainbow Quilters ($4,500).

Other successful applicants include the Port Broughton Mens Shed ($4,700), Port Broughton Echo ($3,877.50), Tickera Community and Recreation Association ($4,579), Alford Progress Association ($3,172), Mundoora Bowling Club ($3,000), Bute Gunner Bills Heritage Centre ($3,988) and the Bute History Group ($470).

Mayor Leonie Kerley said the annual grants program continues to deliver practical, grassroots benefits across Barunga West.

“Our communities rely heavily on volunteers who give their time to keep clubs, facilities and local initiatives running,” Mayor Kerley said. “These grants help lift some of the financial pressure and allow groups to get on with projects that strengthen participation, social connection and township pride. We will continue working with the groups that were unsuccessful to help identify other grant opportunities.”
