The centrepiece is the Port Broughton Christmas Festival on Saturday 13 December, featuring a 4pm–9pm Street Party, 6pm Christmas Pageant, 7pm Santa Cave (including a free family photo), Christmas Carols from 8.30pm, and the official Lighting of the Tree at 9pm.
Council is also supporting the Silent Santa sensory session for children with autism and sensory processing needs on Monday, 15 December, 10am–12pm. To secure a booking, members of the public are asked to contact Council on (08) 8635 2107.
In addition, a series of public Santa Cave sessions will run on weekdays 10am–2pm in the lead-up to Christmas. These sessions do not require bookings. Santa is not available during the public sessions, but families can still walk through the display and enjoy the festive atmosphere.
Mayor Leonie Kerley said the Christmas program continues to play an important role in bringing people together.
“Christmas is a time when communities come together, and that sense of connection is something we value deeply in Barunga West,” Mayor Kerley said. “These events give families, visitors and businesses the chance to gather, celebrate and enjoy being part of something shared and uplifting.”
With pageant registrations lower than usual, Mayor Kerley urged community groups, businesses and families to get involved.
“The pageant is only as vibrant as the people who participate,” she said. “We’re encouraging anyone who has ever considered putting in a float, decorating a car, organising a group entry or simply joining in the fun to register. It’s a great way to be part of the spirit of the season.”
Pageant registrations close Friday, 5 December. Those interested can contact Council for details about how to lodge an entry.
Rounding out the festive season, Council will again host the Port Broughton New Year’s Eve Fireworks on the foreshore, with food trucks available from 5pm–10pm and fireworks at 9.30pm. The Port Broughton jetty will be closed from midday.
“This is one of the biggest nights of the year for our region,” Mayor Kerley said. “It’s a safe, family-friendly way to bring the community together and welcome the new year.”
