Following a recruitment process attracting a number of quality candidates, Maree Wauchope has been appointed as the Barunga West Council’s new Chief Executive Officer.

Maree brings to the role extensive public sector leadership expertise gained from working as a senior executive within State Government for a number of years. She also has a strong understanding of local government and has worked closely with Councils advising strategically on infrastructure projects, and tourism and visitor economy initiatives.

Maree will start as CEO on Monday 4th of May.

Maree lives on the Yorke Peninsula and is already a proud member and advocate for the region. She is genuinely interested in ensuring the region is a great place to live, work and play.

Maree has strong networks within State and Federal Government and has had extensive involvement in securing funding and delivering infrastructure projects for South Australia, and as such, she offers hands on experience, expertise and credibility.

Prior to this appointment, Maree co-owned and worked in consultancy firms “Rod Hook and Associates” and “Regions Matter” in the areas of planning, transport, infrastructure, community development, engagement and advocacy.

Maree also worked in the South Australian public sector for approximately twenty years.

She previously held the position of Group Executive Director for the Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure.  This role included responsibility for contracting and procurement, HR, audit, Governance and Risk, ICT, Culture and Reform, Finance and Communications and Community Relations.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Peter Ward who is currently Acting Chief Executive, for his leadership over the past few months.
