Barunga West Secures $100K for Projects

Barunga West Council is celebrating a major boost for local community projects, with $100,000 in grant funding secured through the State Government’s Thriving Communities Program.

The funding will support two key community-led projects: the revitalisation of the Kulpara Old School site and accessibility upgrades at the Port Broughton Bowling Club.

The Kulpara Progress Association will receive $50,000 to transform the historic school site into an inviting outdoor space for residents and visitors. Planned improvements include an irrigated grass area, a BBQ shelter, nature play elements, and a nest basket swing, fostering a family-friendly and inclusive environment.

The Port Broughton Bowling Club has been awarded $50,000 to enhance accessibility at its clubrooms, with the installation of a disability access ramp and automatic doors. The upgrades will improve access for all community members, ensuring a more inclusive facility for social and sporting activities.

Barunga West’s interim CEO Paul Simpson said the funding is a testament to the Council’s commitment to supporting grassroots initiatives.

“These projects demonstrate how vital grant funding is in helping our community groups bring their ideas to life,” Mr Simpson said. “Council is proud to have supported these applications, ensuring that more projects can be delivered across the region.”

The Thriving Communities Program, delivered through the State Government’s Thriving Regions Fund, provides grants of between $20,000 and $50,000 for small-scale projects that improve infrastructure, accessibility, and community participation. Mr Simpson encouraged other local organisations to reach out to Council for assistance in applying for future grant opportunities.
