Each year, the Australia Day Awards recognise the outstanding contributions of individuals and groups within the community who go above and beyond their daily roles to enrich the lives of others. These awards celebrate those who have made a notable impact in the Barunga West area and embody the spirit of community service and achievement.
The 2024 recipients, chosen for their significant influence and contributions, are as follows:
- Alistair Tod: Citizen of the Year for Port Broughton and surrounds.
- Judith Sutton: Citizen of the Year for Bute and surrounds.
- Seafood on Spencer: Event of the Year for Port Broughton and surrounds.
- Fools on the Farm: Event of the Year for Bute and surrounds.
- Port Broughton Opportunity Shop Volunteers: Mayor’s Active Citizens of the Year for the Top of the Yorke.
Mayor Leonie Kerley extends her heartfelt congratulations to all award recipients and nominees, with a special mention to Port Broughton’s Op Shop volunteers, who have tirelessly and selflessly been making an extraordinary contribution to the community over many years.
“We are privileged and proud to have so many hardworking and generous citizens as members of our community,” Mayor Kerley said. “These awards are a testament to their dedication and the strong sense of fellowship that thrives in our region."
Australia Day 2024 Awards will begin with community breakfasts and proceed with official presentations at two landmark locations:
Bute Soldiers’ Memorial Hall
7:30am: Breakfast provided by Bute Lions Club.
8:30am: Welcome and presentation of awards.
Port Broughton Foreshore
8:00am: Breakfast provided by Fisherman Bay Progress Association.
9:30am: Welcome and presentation of awards.
