Council Assessment Panel

Pursuant to Section 83 of the Planning, Development and Infrastructure Act 2016 (the Act), the Council established a Panel to be known as the Council Assessment Panel (CAP) on 24th March 2022.

The CAP is a relevant authority under the Act and, during transition to the Act, will act as a delegate of the Council for the purpose of the Development Act 1993.

The role of this Panel is to exercise the Council’s responsibilities under the Act through consideration and determination of development applications that are not determined under staff delegated authority.

The Panel will meet on such dates and times as required to fulfil its duties and responsibilities.

The public are welcome to attend these meetings* which are held in the Council Chambers at 11 Bay Street, Port Broughton.

*unless the Panel has resolved to exclude the public from a meeting or part of a meeting pursuant to the Act.

Building Fire Safety Committee

The Council has designated the Building Fire Safety Committee as an Appropriate Authority pursuant to section 157(16) of the Planning, Development and Infrastructure Act 2016.

The committee meets as required to undertake inspections of the building within the Barunga West Council. In general, the committee focuses on the following building types:-

  • Hotels/ motels and other accommodation buildings
  • Supportive residential and aged care facilities
  • Buildings where large numbers of people may congregate
  • Warehouses, factories, shops, offices and other commercial buildings.

Given the commercial confidentiality of the proceedings at these meetings, agendas and minutes are not published on our website. Annual reporting to Council on the activities of the committee are presented in the Council Agenda.
