A Message from the Mayor

Welcome to the website of the District Council of Barunga West.

I welcome you to our website with a winter update of news.  Our staff have provided interesting snippets of information and activities.  I thoroughly recommend to you, the opportunity to provide photographs that have something intriguing or a little different, depicting our Council district that would look great on the front page of our 2015/16 Annual Report.  The winning prize of $100 could also come in very handy.  So come on, out with those cameras and start clicking, then email them in to us!!

We often talk of "red tape" and it's negative influence on projects of various kinds.  Only this week, our SA Premier, Jay Wetherill has written to me about removing outdated legislation.  His pledge is to create and stimulate growth.  Over the next 30 days, the State Government is asking business and the community to speak up about what makes it difficult to conduct business in South Australia.  Now is your chance to have your say.  To get involved in the discussion visit the Your Say website.

On Friday 19th August, the DCBW is hosting 15 Councils at the Central Local Government Region meeting at the Port Broughton Bowling Club.  I am truly excited to have this event in our region to showcase what we have to offer to those travelling amongst us.  Tourism excites us with positive outcomes for local businesses.  As per the notice here on our website for contributions to our "goody bag",  please contact our Port Broughton office by no later than the first week in August to participate in advertising your wares within our region at the CLGR meeting.  Mayors, CEO's and guests will be travelling to Port Broughton and we are determined to put on a memorable show.  So come on, advertise your business!

The prospects of a good season, both on the land and the sea, fills us with optimism for a great time ahead.  The winter season and frosty nights are a great time to relax by the fire and watch your favourite football team.  Barrack hard and hopefully they will get up and win for you!!

Kindest regards

Cynthia Axford
