Aquaculture (Zones -Eastern Spencer Gulf) Amendment Policy 2016
PIRSA has commenced the public consultation period for the above zone policy review has now commenced. The draft Aquaculture (Zones -Eastern Spencer Gulf) Amendment Policy 2016 outlines the proposed changes to the aquaculture zone policy area near Wallaroo and Port Broughton in the Spencer Gulf. The proposed amendments would allow industry to explore the farming of finfish, as well as scallops, sea cucumbers and algae. The current Aquaculture (Zones – Eastern Spencer Gulf) Policy 2005 only permits the farming of molluscs. There are two Zone area of interest to the District Council of Barunga West, namely the Tickera subtidal aquaculture zone and the Port Broughton intertidal aquaculture zone. PIRSA are planning to hold two public meetings on the zone policy review on the Yorke Peninsula as follows: Wednesday, 28 September 2016, from 5:30-7pm, at Wallaroo Sailing Club; and Thursday, 29 September 2016, from 5:30-7pm, at Minlaton Town Hall.
